site search by freefind advanced preserving community history. home contact links programme publications review welcome is committed to preserving community history through the promotion and study of local history in the craigavon area. the society is accepted as a charity by hm revenue & customs - ref. xt22811 and registered with the charity commission for northern ireland - ref. nic100483 please note. this web site was established primarily as a resource for those who share our interests and we hope it is helpful to anyone making a study of their family history. however, the society is unable to assist with queries about genealogical research from individuals or groups. for some advice on sources for family history research click here. 2017/2018 programme. about the was formed in april 1967 at a meeting held in lurgan college of technology. development of the "new city" of craigavon in north armagh had just started with brownlow, the first sector to be developed, sited between lurgan and portadown. membership grew steadily and we now have around 100 members drawn from all communities with interested supporters scattered round the world. from the outset, the society realised that craigavon's development would necessitate the demolition of many buildings and features which gave the area its unique character and the society has helped record buildings and features before they were lost forever. but it has also celebrated the rich cultural heritage of lurgan and portadown and their hinterlands which all have long and colourful histories. looking for an article about a particular historical subject? irish history online's website irishhistoryonline.ie provides a historical bibliography, based in the royal irish academy in dublin. it is by far the most comprehensive of any such bibliography. it's fully searchable, free to users and it's the only one to check for and include articles published in local history journals. it only takes a few moments to register. it's a most attractive site and a great resource - why not have a look. publications the society has recently republished "the parish of seagoe" written in the 1950s by rev. bernard j. mooney and padraic keenan. part i is entitled "place names explained" and part ii "some historical notes".
